When Christina Aguilera launched her stardom with Genie in a Bottle she struck me as irresitably cute (and very lucky to have such a catchy pop song). I really haven’t paid attention to her later career much. She’s used many playful images and when dressed less flamboyantly become a woman of great beauty.
David Bowie made changes of images into an art. Madonna’s evolutions has made for enduring success. Britney Spears has also refreshed her look to sustain fan enthusiams.

Last year wanting to see something I hadn’t before starring Doris Day I had Netflix send me her 1960s television show. Given that she didn’t really want to make it I don’t blame her for wholesomeness overkill.
When I discovered her as a singer I was delighted. She had a really fine voice and manner. Pity she was at Mitch Miller’s Columbia.
When I was a little kid I saw the Doris Day / Rock Hudson movies at the theater as they came out. The films were lots of fun. Not that I had an inkling of what Rock Hudson was up to. I had no idea why women wear always slipping into something more comfortable.

I’m a hapless, helpless Kylie Minogue fan. It isn’t because she’s so pretty. The variety of her self-presentation entertains me but that isn’t what draws me. There’s some odd quality of her voice that tickles my back brain. I don’t mean that she’s a great singer, not that she’s in any way comparable to, say, Ella Fitzgerald. It is just the mysterous way her voice often affects me. And I do like dance pop.
